About Me

Biography

At my day job, I'm a law librarian at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California. I've written and presented on various topics concerning technology in libraries and have taught extensively in the area of legal research, both in classroom and distance education settings.

Prior to entering the library world, I practiced law for a brief time as a public defender. While I never really found a comfort zone practicing law, all those court appearances certainly made it a lot easier to teach a classroom full of students.

I also used to work in television production, and had it paid better, I probably wouldn't be a lawyer or a librarian.

Ask my friends and they'll tell you I'm always researching some new topic. A good friend calls these "Tom Phases," and they are the reason my bookshelves contain volumes on curling, Chinese history, the Arab-Israeli conflict, Poker, game design, civil rights, heavy metal and rare books.

And yes, my books at home are shelved by subject. And in alphabetical order by author. I am a librarian, after all.
