Miloquash proposed a new machine to me today to help her identify songs. When I hear a song I like but don't know the artist or song title, I listen to the lyrics until I hear a distinct phrase that sounds like it might be unique. I then Google that phrase and hopefully pull up the lyrics to the song along with the artist and title. But what if you don't know the lyrics? What if all you have is a bit of the melody stuck in your head? This is where Miloquash's invention comes in. You simply hum the melody into the machine's microphone, and it compares the tune to its database. It then returns anything that comes close. Hmmmm...
